Scenery

by Rufus on May 27, 2010

During the week of the start of Desert Storm, I was attending a week-long “Train the Trainer” workshop in Oldtown, Alexandria just down the road from Washington DC. There was a small sub group of us that sorta bonded together a bit and we spent the few evenings we had eating dinner together, talking. I [...]

I made a bumper sticker

by Charlie on May 26, 2010

I made a short little bumper sticker on Zazzle.com based on a tweet idea I just flung out there. If you want the sticker, buy it or make your own with your own twitter account. Either way is cool with me!

I was reading Donald Miller’s A Million Miles in a Thousand Years on my iPad using Kindle when I flipped the page and saw a passage underlined with a dashed line. “Hmmm, what’s this,” I asked myself. I never highlight passages in a book unless I am working on a paper and I forgot my [...]

I’m a fan of Simone Grant‘s blog Sex, Lies and Dating in the City (don’t judge, just read her blog, ok?) Yesterday, I was watching FOX because that is where the Simpsons are and I saw the promo for Glee. And for a fraction of a second, they showed a cut to a pair of [...]

Why the world needs human translators

by Rufus on May 20, 2010

I had a wild, random thought as I was walking Charlie and Sallie this afternoon. What if I ran a sentence in English through Google Language and got another sentence in another language. Then, I ran that result back again and had it translate back into English. Would the result be the exact same? So, [...]

Rand Paul: If we listen, we’ll hear you

by Charlie on May 20, 2010

I listened to Rand Paul on NPR and Rachel Maddow yesterday and I think I understand what he is saying. He needs to come up with the 140 character sound byte or he will quickly spin this out of control. The link above is his interview with Maddow. (MSNBC embed is a pain) Here is [...]

For one brief hour today, we were wild dogs

by Charlie on May 19, 2010

For a whole hour today, we were wild dogs, romping in the woods without obligation or responsibility. Then we got tired and wished for a comfy couch.

Dogwiches at JD Custard

by Charlie on May 18, 2010

We stopped at the JD Custard in Englewood, next to the Oinkadoodlemoo BBQ and they had a sign in the window for some Dogwiches, .39 each or 4.50 for a barkers dozen (clever, right?) They are two dog biscuits sandwiched with vanilla custard. Me and Sallie could not wait to gobble them up. Love this [...]

How many birds are there at any one time on the planet? There must be billions. It is not an idle question, though frequent readers here are probably starting to doubt I will get to the point any time soon. Patience. Last year, a family of birds made a nest in a little crevice between [...]

It seems that everyone has an opinion on Facebook’s privacy mess and I would be remiss if I didn’t just jump right on the bandwagon and try to grab some limelight (two clichés in one sentence!) Here is what I think is going on. I think Facebook’s privacy policy is more a reflection of a [...]

If Austin Hicks has his way you will soon be hearing and seeing a lot of this up-and-coming Country music performer. The 19-year-old Northmont High School graduate is literally “jumping through the hoops,” doing what it takes to make his way in the world of Country music. That includes hiring an agency to market his [...]

I watched The Marriage Ref on NBC last night party because I couldn’t find the remote after 30Rock was done and party because I really wanted to understand what bothers me about this show. I had already ruled out the concept, graphics and personalities because all of that is Jerry Seinfeld top-notch. There was something [...]

So the other day, I bought this really huge container of mini cream puffs at SAM’s Club. The first thing I did when I got home is cracked open the lid and popped a few in my mouth. Delicious. I’m pretty certain they are fat-free and calorie-free as well, though I am scared to look [...]

Yesterday, I read 34,543 complaints on twitter about how crappy the Internet was, how AT&T wasn’t getting a signal to someone’s iPhone, how someone’s iPad wasn’t picking up a five-bar WiFi signal and on and on. And I read one article in the WSJ Magazine about how one man — Thomas Witherspoon — was changing [...]
