Is this my America?

picture 12 283x300 Is this my America? Where is all this leading? A tent city in Sacramento, California shown on Mar 5, 2009 is growing as the worsening economy leads to more people losing their jobs and being forced out of their homes. More than 1,200 are estimated to live here and growing by 50 people a week.

I wonder if Tom Joad still fights for them.

“maybe like Casy says, a fella ain’t got a soul of his own, but on’y a piece of a big one. … I’ll be ever’where—wherever you look… Then I’ll be aroun’ in the dark. I’ll be ever’where–wherever you look. Wherever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever they’s a cop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there. If Casy knowed, why, I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad an’–I’ll be in the way kids laught when they’re hungry an’ they know suppers ready.” – Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath

About Rufus Dogg

I'm a dog who writes a blog. It is not a pet blog. It is a real blog that talks about real ideas. No, really. I do my own writing, but I have a really, really cool editor who overlooks the fact that I can't really hit the space-bar key cause I don't have thumbs. I talk about everything from politics to social issues to just rambling about local problems. And, sometimes I just talk about nothing in particular. Google+
