My buddy Kevin

kevin My buddy Kevin
This is Kevin. He is there every morning as we go through the Englewood Tim Horton’s drive-through window. He knows who I am, he knows I like two honey-dipped Tim Bits with my decaf coffee and he is always cheerful. I don’t know if he likes his job, what he does on his day off (except he sings at the Salem Church of God) or what his family is like. I don’t know if he lives with caring people or whether he is even happy.

But, I do know a few things about him. He always makes my morning a whole lot more cheerful when I see him, he makes it a point to know a lot of people who come through his window — and makes them feel special as well, and Tim Horton’s is very, very lucky to have him. But mostly what I know is, whatever they are paying him to make my day a little bit better will never, ever be enough.

Thank you, Kevin, for making me feel like a very special dog every morning.

Hillary is going nowhere

OB BK317 Clinto 20080507173349 Hillary is going nowhere As I was lifting my leg to relieve myself on the newspaper this evening, I noticed an article in the Wall Street Journal that said ‘Democrats look to life after Clinton.’ Well, that is an odd thing to say. Life after Clinton? Really?

Hillary Clinton may never become president, but she will become even more powerful than a mere president. She will become a power center where every Democrat that wants to sit on an influential committee or even run for president in the future will need to come and pay her homage and get her blessing. She will, ironically, become Ted Kennedy’s successor.

With Bill right behind her.

Just watch and see.

Dogs, cats and rabbits I know are not me

I will never be president. Not just because I’m a dog, or even because I’m a black dog, but because of the animals I have once known and do now know.

When I was growing up, I used to hang with some dogs who had anti-small dog opinions; very, very strong anti-small dog opinions. We grew apart eventually as their families moved. I never shared their opinions, but they were nice company on warm summer evening walks.

Then, a rabbit moved into our home… and died unexpectedly. So did a hamster, turtle and Guinea pig. There were investigation and people looked at me in a strange way, but nothing was ever proven. Still, people whisper. I had nothing to do with them dying, but there will always be talk.

And lately, I am living with a cat who lies on her back with her paws in the air. I don’t see anything wrong with it, but others find it offensive. And, Lady eats poops from the litter box.

And, of course, there are the eight or so cats I consort with at my office.

But, I am still me. And I like each of my friends for different reasons, though we each see the world a little bit differently. But, it appears, though, that I could never run for president because of who I know, not because of who I am.

Party? What party?

candidates Party? What party?

I was settling in and almost asleep when some idiot on CNN was railing on and on about how this Clinton/Obama race is tearing the party apart, that it is bad for the Democrats, that they need to heal together to win the election in November. And, then as I hit that level of rage between annoyance at being kept awake and the dread of some human idiot won’t ever shut up, I got an epiphany!

Here is what CNN, MSNBC, Fox and all the other media is missing that the American people know:

The job of President of the United States of America is held by one PERSON, not by a PARTY. Nobody cares about the Democratic Party any more. Americans want the best PERSON to win the election, even if the two people running against each other for the job are members of the same party!

If anything comes of this, I hope it is the death of the two-party system. Against any of the two Hillary or Barack, McCain looks like a really, really old guy who can’t remember his name. But, Barack vs Hillary, that is a clash of Titans! THAT is a race to watch and people just don’t really want this one to end.

I sure hope the loser of the Democratic primary runs as an independent. Either way, Hillary or Barack would win this thing, whether as an independent or a Democrat. Choke on that, Howard Dean!

Ok, Colbert is on now… that’s a much quieter (boring) show and I’m curling up and taking a snooze.

Now you can listen to the podcast in Rufus’ own voice.. really!!

It’s a crappy job, but…

Comments Off

no dog poo sign 150x150 Its a crappy job, but...Ok, I live with some really cheap people. They re-use the plastic bags they get from trips to the store. So, I thought I would rank the bags in order of quality and fitness for “the job.”

#1 TARGET: This is not only a really cool place to shop, but their small plastic bags are excellent for this dirty task. The seams never break, they are slightly thicker than the average “free bag” and they look really stylish when carrying the “merchandise.”

#2 KROGER: I admit, I may be a bit bias because these bags are everywhere all the time. We make so many trips to Kroger that we sometimes have to throw them away to keep them from overflowing all over the place. Kinda like Tribbles. But, while they are ok for the job, you have to watch the seams and make sure there are no holes in the bottom. They are great when the bags are fresh, but the plastic tends to break down, expecially when they are all balled up in a jacket pocket for a while.

#3 WALMART: I admit, I don’t shop Walmart, but sometimes my family does. You would think that Walmart bags would be used to holding crap in them, but they are not even good for that task. Thin, seams break easily… Just like Walmart, they are good in a pinch, but not my first choice.

#4 CHINA STAR: Don’t even bother. Throw these bags away.

Hope this helps in keeping the poop off the hands, in the bag and off the ground!
