Sarah Palin no pit bull

I was watching Sarah Palin last night and she said in her speech,

I love those hockey moms. What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick

Some of my best friends are pit bulls. I’m both saddened and enraged at the comparison Palin makes between pit bulls and hockey moms.

Pit bulls attack out of instinct because they are threatened; hockey moms (insert sport here, doesn’t matter) attack because they can. Hockey moms attack because they have an indignant sense of entitlement. Hockey moms attack for the sheer pleasure they get from crushing another human being utterly and completely.

For hockey moms, attack is a sport. For pit bulls, it is merely survival.

  1. Yes…i was a bit shocked that she didn’t have a more positive comeback towards that question….it was quite inappropriate to say the least for the media and a candidate.

  2. @Vince: I’m a dog, so my thoughts can’t really run deeper… I would have expected more than Bwahahaha and DOH! from a human being. πŸ™‚

    @Kembree: love the portrait!!

  3. IF Sara Palin had as much help parenting as she did preparing for that wonderful speech, maybe she could have helped her daughter with family planning,
Where was that hockey mom delivering the hockey team? to Bristols bedroom???

  4. I CAN’T BELIEVE SHE COMPARED HERSELF TO A PITBULL.

SHE’S ANOTHER MORON WHOSE FEEDING THE IMAGE THAT PITBULLS ARE VICIOS AGGRESSIVE DOGS!

SO ALL THE MICHAEL VICKS AND DMXS NOW HAVE SARA PALIN HINTING THAT PITBULLS ARE THE MOST AGGRESSIVE DOGS.

    THANKS IDIOT!!!
WITH 35 MILION PEOPLE WATCHING, HOW MANY ARE GOING TO KEEP FIGHTING THEM ?

THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW
    STUPID
    SHE IS..

  5. @dan: That might be a bit harsh. I don’t know much about Palin’s parenting skills, but I know I would much rather nuzzle up to a pit bull than a hockey mom any day.

@Michael: Yeah, dogs aren’t vicious, hockey moms are vicious. πŸ˜‰ But, people keep breeding them any way. I don’t get it either.

  6. Watching the RNC and Cindy McCain. She just said “I hit a home run with John McCain.” Shouldn’t the GOP be switching to hockey metaphors?

Just a thought… aw, puck it.. too hard..

See, even a dog can do that πŸ˜‰

  7. I’m so glad to see the pit bull community picked up on this, and I hope she really hears about it. She reinforces the stereotypes about pit bulls’ inherent nature that we need to get away from. I think she really has contempt for all animals, given that she always seems to be shooting one or trying to get it delisted as an endangered animal.

Even if the stereotype were true, why would that be something one would liken oneself to? What does it mean, especially in diplomacy?

  8. @Jane: Glad to help. As far as politicians comparing themselves to any dog breed, we should be flattered that they want to become just like us; loving, caring, non-judgmental and fun to be around. Maybe someday they will all stop barking at each other long enough to listen to us.

  9. Very interesting. I wrote a post about Sarah’s comparison to Pit Bulls on my blog Dog Art Today and am getting a similar response from Pit Bull owners. I completely understand. This only perpetuates the negative stereotypes of these dogs.

I am wondering if she owes the breed and the owners an apology…and the polar bears, the moose, the wolves she wants to gun down from airplanes…

Here is my post. Check out the comments section.

  10. Cheers to everyone who is responding openly about Sarah’s Pit Bull comments. Naivety can be overlooked, ignorance can’t.

Pit Bulls are beautiful, wonderful, clownish beings that just happen to be very strong. Like the big kid in school who is extremely sweet, they don’t recognize their own strength.

They will respond to what they are taught. Check out Animal Planet and the update to the Vick-tory (Best Friends renamed them).

I wrote why a Pit Bull would make a better VP than Palin on my blog. I’m glad there are a lot of us paying attention! THANKS…

  11. We have created Pit Bulls Against Palin tee shirts. They are $20 at
http://www.pitbullsagainstpalin.com. Once we break even a portion of the proceeds will be going to pit rescue organizations. By the way, that’s my pit in the photo, a 4-year old rescue who is blind in one eye, has neurological damage, had a broken vertebrae and femur. And in spite of this mistreatment, she’s about the lovngest dog you’ll ever see. Thanks for your support.

  12. I really dont understand why pitbull owners are getting so upset about what Palin said. In my opinion what she was saying was that hockey moms are tough and so are pitbulls. Being tough doesnt mean that you are mean. I think that everyone is blowing this way out of proportion and taking it the wrong way. In my opinion she didnt make the comment about hockey moms and pitbulls in a negative way, I think she was just letting the public know that she is a tough and trong person, like a pitbull.

  13. @Tracy I agree that is what she was saying. My concern here is what the “hockey mom” is in our culture. Again, for hockey moms, attack is a sport. For pit bulls, it is merely survival.

I think we need a VP who is less of a hockey mom and more a diplomat. We need someone who can use discourse rather than fear, intimidation and brute force as a method of persuasion.

I refer you to an earlier post.

    The relevent quote is:
Freedom is also preserved by skilled diplomats who talk with other government leaders. More good comes from mutual respect and patience than by any military action any government can impose on another. It is just a matter of time β€” 1 year, 100 years, 1,000 years β€” before the oppressed rises up and crushes the oppressor. But, mutual respect and patience builds a common goal that preserves freedoms for both parties for 1 year, 100 years, 1,000 years.
14. sarah palin is a jerk, made our beautiful pits look so bad in the eyes of the world. She is a woman who hates animals of all kinds. Look at the wolves she has slaughtered even cubs left to die in the alaskan wilderness. If she is elected with McCain, all the pit bulls in the USA will be open to be banned in all states. We have beautiful Dogs with lots of love from humans to canines, she will ruin this. I fight too hard to show everyone that my cyner is a good loving pup not a mean bone in her body. compare a hockey mom with osama Bin Landin and I agree with that!

  15. I WAS ALSO PRETTY DISTURBED 2 HEAR HER SPEECH WHEN SHE MADE THAT (so called) JOKE. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED PITBULLS AND FINALLY JUST GOT ANOTHER ONE. SHES NOTHING MORE THAN AN ANGEL AND SHES ONLY 6MONTHS OLD!!! SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES MY SON AND SHES JUST THE NICEST DOG EVER!! PITBULLS WERE KNOWN FOR BEIN THE BEST (nanny dog) WHEN IT COMES 2 BEING AROUND KIDS. I HAVE NO RESPECT WHAT SO EVER FOR PPL THAT ARE AGAINST THIS BREED OR HAVE ANYTHING NEGATIVE 2 SAY ABOUT THIS BREED INCLUDING SARAH PALIN!!!
