What would your dog do?

by Rufus on November 29, 2009

On Thanksgiving afternoon, I took Charlie and Sallie for the afternoon walk down by the school, let them off the leashes and they started wrestling and running like they normally do. I started walking along the path they put in a few months back.

I got lost in thought.

Suddenly, I felt Charlie race past me a thousand miles an hour. The next thing I knew, I was lying flat on my back with a heck of a headache. Sallie had plowed into my legs and taken me out like a wrecking ball to a silo.

I laid down for a few minutes as I caught my breath.

I now know what the dogs would do if I suffered a heart attack, stoke or was hit by a random projectile while out walking. Charlie would stand over me looking very concerned while Sallie would sit at my head, giving me tongue kisses in my ear. Neither would reach into my pocket, pull out my iPhone and dial 911.

What would your dog do?

In case you are wondering, I MAY have gotten a mild concussion, and definitely suffered a bit of whiplash and bruised ribs. I’m all better.

Great post. I’m a pet sitter and often wonder what the dogs would do if something happened to me on a walk. My dog just died, but I think she would have walked home and taken a nap like nothing happened!

@Chris I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. Losing a mutt-buddy is never an easy thing. I lost one very close dog a little over a year ago. I still miss him very much. http://www.dogwalkblog.com/2008/10/07/good-bye-dear-friend/ Still places I don’t walk that we shared because they are too sad.
